Installation Instructions & Tips

PLEASE READ installation instructions entirely before beginning. Any complications resulting from a failure to follow these instructions may void the manufacturers warranty.

Instructions:

1. DRY-FIT : Each part must be held up to the area it will be attached to.This will assure it is the correct pattern and orient you with the areas to be cleaned. It may be necessary to warm the parts if they are not flexible enough to dry-fit accurately. ( Refer to step 3 for proper warming instructions.) If any part does not appear to fit properly or is unsatisfactory in appearance in any way do not continue with the installation. Notify your distributor immediately to receive a complete replacement.

2. CLEANING : All areas being covered need to be cleaned thoroughly. It may be helpful to make small pencil marks around the perimeter of the trim parts to assure that you are not cleaning outside of the areas to be covered. A slight discoloration of the bezel may occur and is normal. a.) A silicone remover is recommended to remove any polymers on the surfaceof the automobile bezel. These polymers may have been applied as a dash treatment to produce a shine (Armor-all, Son-of-a-Gun, etc... ) or may be residue from mold release agents used in manufacturing the plastic bezels. Silicone remover is available through most auto paint stores or may be ordered through QLC.Some commonly used products are : Dupont Prep-sol, Polycracker, 3m Prep Solvent 70. Follow manufacturers instructions for use. b.) Wipe all areas to be covered with denatured alcohol to remove any oils left behind by the silicone remover. Any silicone or oil left behind will repel the adhesive on the wood dash trim and cause a non-warranteed failure.

3: ADHESIVE PROMOTER : If your trim kit was manufactured with 3M #4229 foam adhesive having a red release liner with the 3M logo printed on it it is recommended that you apply 3M #4298 Adhesion Promoter with a clean cloth or cotton swab. Adhesion promoter is to be applied to the automobile bezels not to the foam adhesive. Extreme care should be taken to apply the adhesion promoter only to areas that will be covered by the wood trim overlay. Adhesion Promoter will seal the plastic and prevent any incompatibility with the foam adhesive on your trim parts. For further details refer to 3M #4298 product bulletin. This step may be skipped if the trim kit was manufactured with 3M #5568 primerless foam adhesive having a maroon liner without the 3M logo printed on it.

4: TAKE YOUR TIME. Any parts improperly placed likely will not be able to be removed without damage to the trim. Be sure parts are flexible enough to be installed without resistance.

Parts may be warmed by one of three methods, 1.) place parts on the dashboard under the windshield to be warmed by the sun, 2.) turn the heater on inside the car and hold the parts in the front of the vent as needed, 3.) use a heat gun on the lowest setting available and wave it over the parts. (Be careful not to overheat the parts. They can become fragile and tear during the installation).

If parts are flexible choose a part to begin with and dry-fit it again to decide what reference point you will be using to line up the part. Pull the red liner off of the foam adhesive carefully. Start in the corner you are using as your point of reference and gently push into place. Roll the remaining area into position. Once the entire part has been positioned correctly take a soft cloth and apply pressure over the entire surface to assure complete adhesive contact. After all parts have been applied you may choose to polish the trim with a non-abrasive polymer polish to remove any fingerprints and maximize the shine.
